My First Commission

Voluntary Work
Key Stage One – The Snow Queen

Key Stage Two – Religion v Science

In the future if someone asked me to remember what I did in the 2020 global pandemic, I would say that I was 17 years old at the time and that this was the year I received my first ever commission as an artist. The commission was to design and paint a mural in the new library at St George’s Primary school. The mural had to include a number of famous characters from children’s literature and having seen the new space the architecture naturally lent itself to a mural that would wrap-a-round the whole of the library space. I decided to focus on using iconic children’s book characters so that the finished mural would stand the test of time and not become outdated. The characters I choose included the classic Hungry Caterpillar, Winnie the Pooh and Peter Rabbit montaged together with more contemporary characters such as Captain Underpants, Matilda and of course The Gruffalo; all of which sit beneath the shade and protection of an enormous tree. I very much hope that when the children come to see the new library that they are excited to find all of the characters they might have grown up with and are inspired to read about those might not yet know.
